Academy Hits Right Notes for Young Musicians
The third annual 黑料百科 Academy for Young Artists (WAYA), an intensive two-week program for local musicians ages 10-18, is Aug. 7-18 at 黑料百科. Tuition costs $1575 with a $25 application fee. Scholarships are available at .
WAYA is designed to significantly improve students鈥 instrumental technique and musical artistry. 鈥淭his training will help students prepare for their orchestral and chamber music activities at school, college auditions and MTAC鈥檚 Certificate of Merit,鈥 says WAYA director (violin, viola).
WAYA features faculty members (violin), (violin), (cello), (flute), (flute), (oboe), (clarinet), (bassoon, conducting), Neil Di Maggio (piano), Jeong-ah Ryu (piano) and (conducting).
鈥淥ur instructors include nationally acclaimed musicians, performers and teachers,鈥 Kim says. 鈥淲e will teach, inspire and mentor students through lessons, performances, workshops and classes.鈥
In addition to playing their primary instrument, participants will study music theory, sight-reading and conducting, which will help them fully understand the conductor. They will learn other skills, such as working and communicating with fellow musicians, preparing to perform under pressure, techniques for practicing, preparing for college, and advice about college applications. Each student will receive four private lessons and attend workshops and classes.
