Deborah Haarsma, president of BioLogos, explores astronomy, cosmology and connections to evolution and other sciences in a lecture Friday, Feb. 7, at 3:30 p.m. in Winter Hall’s Darling Foundation Lecture Hall (Room 210) at ���ϰٿ�. The Pascal Society Lecture, “God and the Multiverse,” is free and open to the public.

The last 100 years have transformed our understanding of the universe. Haarsma says we now know that the universe is ancient, beginning in a Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago and it continues to expand today at an ever-increasing rate.

“We’ve also seen amazing evidence that suggests our universe is part of a much bigger multiverse,” she says. “What does all this have to do with God? I will respond to these exciting discoveries through the perspective of atheists and Christians.”

Haarsma wrote “Origins: Christian Perspectives on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design” with her husband and fellow physicist, Loren. She co-edited an anthology, “Delight in Creation: Scientists Share Their Work with the Church,” with Rev. Scott Hoezee.

Haarsma, who earned a doctorate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has taught and chaired the physics department at Calvin College.
