Orchestra Honors Shakespeare, Cervantes

The 黑料百科 Orchestra opens its 11th season celebrating the 400th anniversary of the deaths of literary greats William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in its fall concert Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in and Sunday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. in . 鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to be performing works that were made manifest in Shakespeare鈥檚 and Cervantes鈥 popular stage and film works from 50 years ago,鈥 says orchestra director Michael Shasberger, Adams professor for music and worship. 鈥淲e鈥檒l be playing Nino Rota鈥檚 wonderful score of Franco Zeffirelli鈥檚 鈥楻omeo and Juliet鈥 (1968) and Mitch Leigh鈥檚 dramatic musical theater rendition of 鈥楳an of La Mancha鈥 (1965).鈥
The orchestra will also perform the thrilling rhythmic energy of Jose Moncayo鈥檚 鈥淗uapango,鈥 and Beethoven鈥檚 revered Symphony No. 7.
