Talk to Explore Global Education, Health

Dr. , executive director of Child Family Health International (), examines the complexities of achieving global health equity in a lecture, 鈥淕lobal Health: Tensions, Trends, and Truths鈥 on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in Winter Hall鈥檚 Darling Foundation Lecture Hall (Room 210). The Office of Global Education Lecture, co-sponsored by the 黑料百科 department of kinesiology, is free and open to the public.

鈥淕lobal health offers the opportunity for everyone, regardless of discipline or pursuit, to unify toward human and planetary wellness,鈥 Evert says. 鈥淢omentum has never been greater.鈥

Evert, a graduate of Emory University, earned an M.D. at Ohio State University College of Medicine. She serves on the faculty in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.

鈥淪he is a longtime advocate for health-related international education quality and ethical standards,鈥 says Cynthia Toms, 黑料百科 director of and CFHI board member.

Evert focuses her research and advocacy toward the ethics of global educational engagement, competency-based international education, health disparities, asset-based programmatics and reflection. She has authored and edited multiple chapters, articles and books in global health with a focus on education, ethics and asset-based engagement. She co-authored 鈥淒eveloping Global Health Programming: A Guidebook for Medical and Professional Schools鈥 and 鈥淕lobal Health Education: A Guidebook,鈥 both of which are in their second editions.

She helped develop the Standards for Health-Related Undergraduate Programs for the Forum on Education Abroad, a non-profit recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission as the Standards Development Organization for the field of education abroad.

Evert won the Global Health Education Consortium鈥檚 prestigious Christopher Krogh Award for her dedication to underserved populations at home and abroad.

CFHI is a grassroots non-governmental organization that provides transformative global health education experiences and community empowerment in underserved communities around the world. Its programs broaden students鈥 perspectives about global health 鈥 as well as a variety of community health initiatives and projects 鈥 in developing countries, including Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Argentina, Mexico, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana and the Philippines.
