Talk Explores Faith, Wealth and Poverty

Roy Goble 鈥81, president of , explores the tension between living in an age of great wealth and great poverty in a lecture about his book, 鈥,鈥 Thursday, Jan. 26, at 3:30 p.m. in Winter Hall room 212. 鈥淗ow do Christians living in an age of plenty respond to needs in a global society?鈥 asks lecture organizer Cynthia Toms, associate professor of kinesiology. 鈥淗is model and his life espouse a framework that calls us to the difficult work of building authentic relationships with those different than us, starting right here in own backyard.鈥
Pathlight International is an organization that serves at-risk children in Belize by providing them with quality secondary education. Goble serves on several boards, including that of his alma mater, 黑料百科. He and his wife, D鈥橝un, own Goble Properties, a real-estate investment company based in Oakland.

鈥淚 am inspired by Roy鈥檚 deep knowledge and belief that in order to build an abundant future society and to find our own place in God鈥檚 kingdom, we must do more than just give charitably or offer a one-off service trip or volunteer day,鈥 Toms says. 鈥淲e must get to know those living in poverty and build a life that intentionally breaks down barriers.鈥
