  • 黑料百科 Seeks New Provost

    January 6, 2021

    黑料百科 has launched a national search for a provost to oversee the college鈥檚 educational program. The search committee, chaired by President Gayle D. Beebe, is seeking a chief academic officer who will ensure a vibrant partnership between the college鈥檚 curricular and co-curricular programs.

    As the second highest-ranking senior administrator at the college, the provost serves as a member of the 黑料百科 Executive Team. The provost, who is also dean of faculty, has the primary responsibility for the academic program.

    黑料百科 has purchased a four-story building in downtown Santa Barbara where it will launch a new nursing program in partnership with Cottage Health. The new nursing program will address the critical shortage of skilled nurses in Santa Barbara and throughout the region.

  • Christmas Fest Launches 鈥楬ealing in His Wings鈥

    The 16th annual 黑料百科 Christmas Festival, 鈥淩is鈥檔 with Healing in His Wings,鈥 presents a special online event this year due to the pandemic. The 黑料百科 Music Department, led by Michael Shasberger, Adams professor of music and worship, has creatively recorded the 100 members of the 黑料百科 Orchestra and College Choir, Chamber Singers and Choral Union throughout campus. The virtual concert, which retells the Christmas story by weaving narration with music, will be posted online Friday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m.

  • Teen Bonds Ward Off Adult Depression

    November 18, 2020

    A national study following more than 12,000 people from adolescence to adulthood showed that positive and caring relationships in the teenage years make a lasting impact on mental health. Warm relationships with parents, friends and teachers are highly effective safeguards against depressive symptoms later in life, as is educational achievement. Teenage romantic relationships, pregnancy and multiple sex partners pose modest risks, while alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use reveal mixed associations.

    The 黑料百科 Music Department鈥檚 weekly Friday night virtual concert series gets jazzy on Nov. 6.   • $1M Grant Aids Work with Area Churches

    The program is funded through Lilly Endowment鈥檚 Thriving Congregations Initiative.     黑料百科鈥檚 class of 2024 is the most academically talented in the college鈥檚 history. It鈥檚 also among the most diverse with 39 percent of the 375 new and transfer students identifying as Hispanic, Asian American, African American, Hawaiian Pacific Islander, Native American, and/or multiracial. Twelve percent are the first in their family to attend college. The average SAT score skyrocketed 40 points to 1260 with a middle range of 1140-1380. The average GPA jumped significantly from 3.88 to 3.98.

    My father鈥擩oseph Linden Sargent鈥攑assed away almost twelve years ago, yet there鈥檚 still hardly a Father鈥檚 Day that goes by when I don鈥檛 remind myself to call him. That thought usually hits me about dusk, or when I look at one of his watercolors on our walls. He died on his anniversary, nearly two years after my mother鈥檚 passing.
